Exciting New Feature for NIVOMAX Network Edition – Remote Desktop Support Coming Soon!
Last Updated on August 23, 2024 | 3 min read
We are excited to announce a significant enhancement for the NIVOMAX Network Edition, developed in direct response to invaluable feedback from our dedicated user community. This upcoming enhancement will allow the NIVOMAX Network Edition Client Viewer to be installed and function seamlessly on a Windows Server environment, just as it does on physical workstations, without the current limitations. With this enhancement, we will now support this type of setup, which is currently unsupported. Multiple users will be able to access and use the software concurrently via Remote Desktop. Scheduled for release later this year, this powerful new feature reaffirms our unwavering commitment to enhancing your experience.
We will keep you informed through the help site, and all users who have requested this feature will receive email updates as it progresses through development and is integrated into the distributions you are using.
Background
Currently, the NIVOMAX Network Edition is not supported over a Wide Area Network (WAN) via VPN due to performance and security considerations. Variability in network performance between the Data Server and Client Viewers, along with potential impacts from security systems, can affect the application’s functionality. Additionally, licensing agreements between the ePub supplier and SYNAXIOM may restrict such usage.
However, given the diverse working environments, users may need to access the Network Edition Viewer without being on the same LAN or when the Client Viewer cannot connect to the Data Server. In these cases, IT admins often opt to use a Windows Server setup for the Client Viewers on the same LAN as the Data Server and connect via Remote Desktop Protocol to access the Client Viewer.
Example NIVOMAX Network Edition Remote Desktop Setup
While this type of setup is currently unsupported, the good news is that support is coming this year.
In the meantime, you can use the guide below to set up a workaround. Please note that this approach comes with limitations, and users should be educated on how the system will behave to avoid workflows that could lead to a negative user experience.

Future Support in the Next Version
In the upcoming version of the NIVOMAX Network Edition, we are excited to introduce full support for Remote Desktop connections. This enhancement will:
- Isolate Client Sessions: Ensure that each remote connection from the same Windows Server instance is treated as an individual client with a unique Client ID. This behavior will fully mimic that of distinct Client Viewers installed on separate physical workstations in a local area network.
- Prevent Disconnections: Users on the same Windows Server instance connecting to the Data Server will no longer be disconnected when another user on the same server closes the application.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all the users who provided feedback, which has been instrumental in shaping this enhancement. Your insights and suggestions are the driving force behind our continuous improvement, and we are committed to delivering the best possible experience with NIVOMAX.
