Disclaimer

SYNAXIOM does not distribute NIVOMAX Viewer setup files directly to end users. To obtain the necessary setup files, users must download a copy directly from the Technical Publications Supplier's NIVOMAX Self Serve portal, subsequent to agreeing to the terms and conditions stipulated therein. The Technical Publication Supplier, possessing a valid Distribution ID for their copy of the NIVOMAX Applications, is the sole distributor. Access to and use of the NIVOMAX Viewer is contingent upon the purchase of a Data License for a digital product from the Technical Publications Supplier. The digital product downloaded will function exclusively with the viewer provided by the respective Supplier. Users are advised that the distribution of NIVOMAX Viewer setup files may be governed by applicable export control regulations depending on their region.

Licensing

It is not necessary for end-users to purchase a separate NIVOMAX license. The Technical Publications Supplier from whom you have acquired your Data License has already procured the requisite licenses from SYNAXIOM. By extending an invitation, they include you within their authorized user pool, as permitted under their NIVOMAX license agreement. You are authorized to use the NIVOMAX software provided the Technical Publications Supplier maintains a valid NIVOMAX software license.

Working Offline

This guide explains how to operate NIVOMAX Viewer Desktop Edition, NIVOMAX Network Edition – Data Server, and NIVOMAX Viewer Mobile  Edition for iPad when internet connectivity is limited or unavailable. It covers offline operation in temporary network outages, server failures, or controlled air gap environments where devices are permanently isolated from the internet.

NIVOMAX provides several secure options to maintain access to authorized data libraries, depending on edition and deployment configuration.

Preconditions for Offline Operation

Offline access is supported in all NIVOMAX Viewer editions.

Before using offline mode, make sure the following conditions are met:

  1. Your user profile is correctly provisioned in the NIVOMAX platform.
  2. You have logged in at least once through Single Sign-On (SSO) or completed Offline Activation while connected to the internet.
  3. Offline Activation and Profile Setup cannot be performed while the system is unavailable.

Desktop and Data Server Editions

  • Support full Air Gap operation through the controlled Offline Activation Process.
  • In air gap environments, activation is completed using a secure file exchange between the offline device and the NIVOMAX Self-Serve Portal.
  • This exchange validates user identity and licenses before the system is permanently disconnected.

Mobile Viewer (iPad Edition)

  • Does not support Air Gap or Offline Activation.
  • Data libraries must be downloaded and activated while online.
  • After activation, the app transitions to offline mode for field use.
  • Out-of-Band (OOB) Authorization allows password prompts to be deferred when approved by policy, using token-based authentication.

Common Offline Scenarios

Scenario 1 – Server-Side Support Unavailable

Issue: The client cannot connect to NIVOMAX servers and shows a 404 or 502 error.
Action: The application detects the issue and prompts you to Work Offline.

Scenario 2 – Login Timeout

Issue: Login exceeds 60 seconds due to SSO or server unavailability.
Action: Restart the application. When prompted, choose Work Offline to continue using previously activated data.

Accessing Offline Mode

If login fails, the Login Options dialog appears with two choices:

  1. Work Offline – Continue without an internet connection.
  2. Login – Attempt a normal login using your Business ID (BID) credentials.

When Work Offline is selected, the NIVOMAX Viewer Offline Access window opens.

Enter your User ID to access authorized data libraries stored locally.

Re-Launching the NIVOMAX Viewer

The NIVOMAX Viewer remembers the previous session state. When reopened, it provides the same options to continue offline or reconnect online. If you reconnect, the system refreshes your tokens and updates data synchronization automatically upon login or OOB Authentication &  Authorization.

Special Considerations

Offline Activation for Air Gap Environments

Air gap environments use a controlled file exchange rather than pre-configuration. To activate data libraries offline:

  1. Generate Activation Token: Launch NIVOMAX Viewer or Data Server on the air-gapped device and create a token.nmx file.
  2. Upload Token Online: On a separate internet-connected system, log into the NIVOMAX Self-Serve Portal, open Downloads & Activation > Offline Activation, and upload the token.
  3. Download Profile: After validation, download the generated profile.nmx file from the portal.
  4. Import Profile Offline: Transfer the file to the air-gapped device and import it into NIVOMAX Viewer or Data Server to activate the libraries.

This process authorizes the user, validates license entitlements, and enables offline use. Regularly refresh activation files to maintain compliance and access to the latest data.

For full instructions, see Offline Activation of Data Libraries for Air Gap Environments – NIVOMAX Help Center.

Mobile Viewer (iPad Edition)

The iPad app is designed for online-to-offline operation.

  • Activation and data download require an active internet connection.
  • Once data libraries are fully synchronized, the app continues to function offline.
  • Connectivity is only needed again to refresh data or renew tokens.
  • OOB Authorization can defer password entry during approved sessions, improving usability while maintaining secure entitlement control.

Profile Setup

  • Perform all user and data setup steps while connected to a network before transitioning to offline or air-gapped use.
  • Desktop / Server: Complete the token–profile exchange before disconnection.
  • Mobile (iPad): Finish profile setup and data synchronization in online mode; activation cannot be done offline.

Any attempt to activate data libraries without proper authorization or internet connection will fail.

Exiting Offline Mode

Both the NIVOMAX Viewer Desktop Edition and Data Server remember previous offline settings. When restarted, users can either continue working offline or reconnect to update data and synchronize logs.

For the Mobile Viewer, reconnection automatically validates session tokens and uploads access logs when the device returns online.

Summary

NIVOMAX provides flexible offline operation across all viewer editions:

Edition Offline Mode Activation Method Air Gap Support OOB Support
Desktop Viewer Yes Token & Profile file exchange Yes Yes
Data Server Yes Token & Profile file exchange Yes Yes
Mobile Viewer (iPad) Yes (after online activation) Online activation only No Yes

By following these procedures, users can ensure uninterrupted access to licensed data libraries, even under limited or zero connectivity, while maintaining compliance with security and entitlement policies.
