Licensing Digital Libraries

Disclaimer

SYNAXIOM does not distribute NIVOMAX Viewer setup files directly to end users. To obtain the necessary setup files, users must download a copy directly from the Technical Publications Supplier's NIVOMAX Self Serve portal, subsequent to agreeing to the terms and conditions stipulated therein. The Technical Publication Supplier, possessing a valid Distribution ID for their copy of the NIVOMAX Applications, is the sole distributor. Access to and use of the NIVOMAX Viewer is contingent upon the purchase of a Data License for a digital product from the Technical Publications Supplier. The digital product downloaded will function exclusively with the viewer provided by the respective Supplier. Users are advised that the distribution of NIVOMAX Viewer setup files may be governed by applicable export control regulations depending on their region.

Licensing

It is not necessary for end-users to purchase a separate NIVOMAX license. The Technical Publications Supplier from whom you have acquired your Data License has already procured the requisite licenses from SYNAXIOM. By extending an invitation, they include you within their authorized user pool, as permitted under their NIVOMAX license agreement. You are authorized to use the NIVOMAX software provided the Technical Publications Supplier maintains a valid NIVOMAX software license.

Purpose

This topic explains how the NIVOMAX platform enforces digital library licenses. It describes licensing behavior, configuration options, and runtime enforcementacross Desktop, Network, and Web viewers.

Data Licenses – Licensing of Digital Tech Pubs Products

The license that impacts end users is the Data License for digital products. These products are Technical Publication Libraries purchased from an authorized ePub Supplier.

This license is an agreement between the ePub Supplier and the end user.It does not involve SYNAXIOM directly. The NIVOMAX platform enforces the license at runtime.

  1. Duration of Use
Licenses are usually time-based, most often annual.Terms may vary by Supplier.
  2. Type of Media
Content is accessible only through NIVOMAX Viewers.Individual pages may be exported for personal use(print or unencrypted PDF).Commercial redistribution is not permitted.
  3. Exclusivity and Access
Each digital product license is normally linked to a single device activation.By default, the same user also receives complimentary accessthrough the Web Viewer.

Flexible Licensing Options

NIVOMAX provides configurable license enforcement based on deployment type. These options are controlled by the ePub Supplier and enforced by the platform.

Default Behavior Customizable Options
Activation on NIVOMAX Desktop App One license is required for each installation, even for the same user.
  1. Allow All:Unlimited activations.Users can access all assigned digital productswith an active NIVOMAX account.
  2. Restrict by User:A licensed user may activate the producton multiple devices but must log inas the assigned user.
  3. Restrict by User per Device:Each device requires a separate license, regardless of the login user.
NIVOMAX Network Edition Data Server Each digital product activation on the Data Serverrequires at least one license. The license is assigned to the Data Server Administrator.Additional licenses are required for concurrentNetwork Client Viewer connections.
NIVOMAX Network Edition Client Viewer Client Viewer applications connect anonymouslyto the Data Server. The number of concurrent connections cannot exceedthe number of activated licenses. Access is managed only at the Data Server level.Client Viewers are not individually licensed.
Web Application When a digital product is assigned by the Data License Administrator, the user gains immediate access through the NIVOMAX Web Viewer.Concurrent access may be limited based onSupplier configuration.
  1. Allow All:Unlimited access while the user account is active.
  2. Unlimited Concurrent Access:Multiple browser sessions are allowed.
  3. Single Concurrent Access:Only one active session per license.Users may log out of the existing session.
  4. Complimentary Web Access:Included with all licenses.Configurable as Unlimited or Single Concurrent Access.
