NIVOMAX Viewer Installation Guide – for versions 3.5.x or greater

Last Updated on February 6, 2025 | 8 min read

This guide covers the installation of the NIVOMAX Viewer Desktop Edition and Network Edition for Windows, starting from version 3.5.x.

Important

With version 3.5.x, SYNAXIOM introduces the new NIVOMAX Installer, replacing InstallAnywhere. The NIVOMAX Installer enhances the installation experience with a simplified process, improved user interface, and expanded configuration options.

If you are trying to install NIVOMAX Viewer version 3.4.x or earlier, please refer to the previous installation guide available here. However, we highly recommend upgrading to version 3.5.x or later to take advantage of the latest features and improvements.

This guide provides detailed, step-by-step instructions to ensure a smooth installation of the NIVOMAX Viewer on your system.

Prerequisites

SYNAXIOM does not distribute NIVOMAX Viewer applications to end users. Please obtain your copy of the NIVOMAX Viewer Desktop Edition through your ePubs supplier’s Self-Serve Portal Page, which will appear on your ePub Supplier’s NIVOMAX Fact Sheet. If you need the fact sheet or help identifying your supplier, contact us and we will be glad to assist.

Downloading the Setup File

  1. Download Setup:
    • Download the latest NIVOMAX Viewer Desktop Edition setup file from the Self Serve Portal >> Downloads & Activation >> Software Downloads page.
  2. Locate Setup File:
    • NIVOMAX Desktop Edition: NIVOMAX Viewer Desktop Edition-WIN-X64-V3.5.x-{Build_ID}.exe
    • NIVOMAX Network Edition – Data Server: NIVOMAX Network Edition – Data Server-WIN-X64-V3.5.x-{Build_ID}.exe
    • NIVOMAX Network Edition – Client Viewer: NIVOMAX Network Edition – Client Viewer-WIN-X64-V3.5.x-{Build_ID}.exe

Note

The setup file name includes the version as V3.5.x-{Build_ID}, where x refers to the patch version and {Build_ID} represents the specific build identifier. These values are populated based on the release.

Running the Setup File

  1. Run as Administrator: Right-click the setup file and select Run as administrator.
  2. User Account Control: When the ‘User Account Control’ window appears, click Yes to allow the NIVOMAX Viewer installer to start the installation process.
  3. Extract Application Files: Installer will begin to extract the necessary files. Click the Cancel button if you wish to stop the process.

Start Installation

  1. Introduction Screen: The introduction screen provides general information. Click Next to proceed or Cancel to exit the installation.

    Note

If your are attempting to upgrade and the current NIVOMAX Viewer version is not eligible for a direct upgrade to version 3.5.x, you will see a message prompting you to either uninstall the existing version or upgrade to version 3.4.x first. This occurs because direct upgrades are only supported for 3.4.x versions only.

  2. End User Agreement (EUA): Read the EUA, and check I accept the terms of the License Agreement to proceed. Options to Cancel or go to the Previous screen are available.
  3. Install Prerequisites (Conditional): If Visual Studio C++ is already installed, this step will be automatically skipped. The installer will check for Visual Studio C++, which is required for NIVOMAX to function properly. Otherwise, the installer will prompt you to download and install it during this step.
  4. Choose Data Store:
    • Default Location: The installer will suggest a default directory for storing your libraries as path C:\Users\{USERNAME}\Documents\nivomax-repo.
    • To customize, click … button and specify a folder, or click Restore Default to revert.

      Important:

      • If you choose to store libraries on a USB drive, ensure the drive is assigned the same drive letter each time it is connected. Failing to do so may result in errors accessing the libraries.
      • Using a USB drive may also impact performance due to slower read/write speeds compared to a local disk.

      Warning !

If the NIVOMAX apps are run by a Windows user without the correct permissions:

      • Custom Location: The chosen folder for the Data Store must be empty. Any existing files/folders will be removed during installation.
      • External Drives: Windows may not always assign the same drive letter to the USB drive each time it is connected. This can result in NIVOMAX being unable to locate the Data Store on the USB drive.
  5. Choose Install Folder, default values are:
    • Desktop Viewer: C:\Program Files\NIVOMAX Desktop Viewer
    • Network Data Server: C:\Program Files\NIVOMAX Data Server
    • Network Client Viewer: C:\Program Files\NIVOMAX Client Viewer

  6. Pre-Installation Summary: Review the installation summary. You can cancel, go back, or click Install to begin the installation process.
  7. Installation Progress: A progress window will show the installation status. The next window will load upon completion.

Network Settings

Available only on Network Edition – Client Viewer

  1. NIVOMAX Network Edition, Client Viewer Name: Enter a unique name for this Client Viewer. This name and the Device ID will be used for identification on the NIVOMAX Data Server – Client Manager interface.
  2. RDP Port Range (Optional): Specify a range of TCP ports for Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connections. This setting should only be enabled and configured by users setting up the NIVOMAX Network Edition on a Windows Server for access via RDP.
  3. Once you have completed the network configuration for the Client Viewer, continue to Step 10: Install Complete to finalize the installation process.

    Note

When running the Network Client Viewer on a Windows Server, each client account will create an instance requiring its own port. A port within the specified range will be dynamically assigned to the Client Viewer when a new user on the Windows Server launches the application via RDP.

    Recommendation

The port range must be equal to or greater than the maximum number of concurrent users expected to launch the Client Viewer on the Windows Server. Using a larger port range is recommended to ensure sufficient availability for all users.

        • If installing the Client Viewer, enter the Data Server’s IP address or Hostname.
      • Port: Enter the port number the NIVOMAX Data Server is listening on or use the default port 3000. Ensure this port is open and accessible for the Client Viewer.
  2. After completing the network configuration, proceed to Step 10: Install Complete.
  3. Note

This screen will appear during the installation of both the Data Server and Client Viewer. Even when installing the Data Server, you are required to provide an IP address or Hostname and port for the server to listen on.

Available only on Desktop Edition and Network Edition – Data Server

  1. Internet Proxy Server Settings: Choose the proxy server settings (use system settings or manual settings with IP Address and Port).
  2. Once the network settings are finalized, move to Step 10: Install Complete.
