Applicability Information
Last Updated on July 17, 2024 | 3 min read
Specifications such as S1000D allows Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to create content tailored to specific Product Sequence Numbers (PSN). The NIVOMAX Platform harnesses this data, efficiently resolving and presenting applicability conditions to ensure that users can easily identify content relevant to their specific equipment.

Displaying Applicability Statements
Applicability conditions dictated by OEMs during the authoring phase can target entire data modules or specific portions thereof. These conditions are prominently displayed to the user through detailed applicability statements.
Note: Applicability statements are not altered when Service Bulletin Configurations are applied as they are generated during publishing using the conditions present in the data.
Applicability at the Data Module
At the data module, applicability affects the entire content of the module. Access this information by clicking the Data Module Status icon in the Structured Data Toolbar, which loads the Data Module Status information into the Right Slider Feature Panel. When viewing an S1000D data module, the applicability statement also appears at the top of the module within a color coded information bar:
- Blue Bar: Indicates the presence of applicability data within the Data Module, can show as Applicability: ALL or with a specific statement.
Applicability: ALL identifies that the DM status only and there may be inline applicability statements present so the user must review the content carefully.
- Amber Bar: Indicated that the document is missing applicability data.
Inline Applicability Statement
If only specific sections of a data module are affected by applicability conditions, these sections are highlighted with a grey bounding box within the content. An applicability statement is displayed above these sections to ensure clarity and emphasis on the affected content.
Applicability Filtering
This feature enhances user interaction by redacting content that is not relevant to the entered PSN values. Applicability filtering is set via the Applicability Filter icon on the Tab Toolbar, which activates the Applicability Filtering configuration tool within the Right Slider Feature Panel.
- When the filter is applied and it affects the entire data module, the link to that data module in the Table of Contents will appear greyed out and disabled.
- When only parts of a data module are subject to specific applicability conditions, these sections are redacted.
“Content below is hidden due to your selected Product Sequence Number (PSN)” appears above the greyed out portion to indicate the reason for the redaction.
See Filtering Content by PSN and SB Status on how to use the content filtering feature within NIVOMAX.
Navigating Applicability in NIVOMAX Viewers
Engaging with S1000D technical documentation through NIVOMAX Viewer offers a streamlined experience that ensures only the most pertinent information is displayed, based on the specific operational or maintenance context of the user. This targeted approach not only enhances efficiency but also supports compliance with applicable standards.
By understanding and utilizing the applicability features within NIVOMAX Viewer, users can ensure they are accessing the most relevant and up-to-date technical information for their specific needs.
