2024-2-QMR2: Scheduled Quarterly Maintenance Release

Disclaimer

SYNAXIOM does not distribute NIVOMAX Viewer setup files directly to end users. To obtain the necessary setup files, users must download a copy directly from the Technical Publications Supplier's NIVOMAX Self Serve portal, subsequent to agreeing to the terms and conditions stipulated therein. The Technical Publication Supplier, possessing a valid Distribution ID for their copy of the NIVOMAX Applications, is the sole distributor. Access to and use of the NIVOMAX Viewer is contingent upon the purchase of a Data License for a digital product from the Technical Publications Supplier. The digital product downloaded will function exclusively with the viewer provided by the respective Supplier. Users are advised that the distribution of NIVOMAX Viewer setup files may be governed by applicable export control regulations depending on their region.

Licensing

It is not necessary for end-users to purchase a separate NIVOMAX license. The Technical Publications Supplier from whom you have acquired your Data License has already procured the requisite licenses from SYNAXIOM. By extending an invitation, they include you within their authorized user pool, as permitted under their NIVOMAX license agreement. You are authorized to use the NIVOMAX software provided the Technical Publications Supplier maintains a valid NIVOMAX software license.

Minimum Supported Application Stack

The 2024-2-QMR2 update requires a specific set of baseline platform and infrastructure components. To ensure compatibility, stability, and security, your environment must meet the following minimum supported versions:

NIVOMAX Platform Components

Component Minimum Required Version
NIVOMAX Platform (Core) 2024-2
NIVOMAX Self-Serve Portal 3.2.2
NIVOMAX Builder 3.2.4
NIVOMAX Broker 2.1.1
NIVOMAX Viewer – Web Edition 3.5.14
NIVOMAX Viewer – Network Edition 3.5.14
NIVOMAX Viewer – Desktop Edition 3.5.14

Platform Versions older than NIVOMAX 2024-2 are not eligible for 2024-2-QMR2. If you are running an earlier release, please contact your Client Success Manager to discuss upgrade options prior to applying this patch.

Infrastructure & Runtime Requirements

Component Minimum Required Version
Java Runtime OpenJDK 17 or higher
Apache Tomcat 10.1.34 or higher
Node.js (Viewer) 18.x, 20.x
HTTPD (Apache) 2.4.x
Operating System RHEL 9 (RHEL 9 required for Node.js 20 support)

Important: Older versions of these components may not be compatible with the enhancements introduced in this release. While QMR2 can technically function on environments running Node.js < 18, this is not recommended due to security considerations. Environments that do not meet the minimum requirements should upgrade proactively, as the upcoming NIVOMAX 2025 release will require these updated versions.

For detailed deployment readiness checks, please contact your SYNAXIOM Client Success Manager.

Why You Should Patch

  • Resolution of key bugs affecting the NIVOMAX Apps
  • Security patches to close known vulnerabilities
  • Performance enhancements to reduce resource consumption and improve responsiveness

Installing this patch ensures that your environment stays aligned with supported configurations and benefits from cumulative improvements.

Resolved Issues

All NIVOMAX applications included in this release have received security-focused updates as part of this QMR. These updates address known vulnerabilities and improve overall platform hardening. While specific security items are not listed individually, patching has been applied uniformly across the stack to maintain compliance with SYNAXIOM’s secure deployment standards.

NIVOMAX Viewer

  • Improved Profile Isolation for Shared Desktop and Network Installations [NMX-V-3XXX-1]
In environments where more than one user signs into the same Desktop or Network Edition installation using separate SSO accounts, conflicts could arise due to overlapping profile data. This release introduces a safeguard that automatically isolates user profiles on shared installations, preventing data mix-ups and improving stability in non-compliant multi-user scenarios.
  • Case-Insensitive Hostname Support in Network Edition Setup [NMX-V-3XXX-2]
The Client Viewer setup process for the Network Edition now accepts hostnames in a case-insensitive format. This enhancement improves usability during initial configuration by reducing errors caused by casing mismatches in server hostnames.
  • Improved Clarity in User-Facing Messages [NMX-V-3XXX-3]
Updated messages, log outputs and system notifications to enhance clarity and usability.
  • Improved Multi-Tab Logout Experience [NMX-V-3XXX-4]
Previously, logging out from one browser tab could result in inconsistent session behavior across other open tabs, including incorrect messaging and a lingering login prompt. The logout process has been enhanced to ensure that all open tabs now reflect a consistent and accurate session state, delivering a smoother and more predictable user experience.

NIVOMAX Builder

  • Correction to Printed DM Status Page – S1000D [NMX-B-3XX-1]
Resolved a text accuracy issue in the printed version of the Data Module Status page, where a label previously included a typographical error. Output now aligns with the expected terminology and formatting standards.
  • Configurable Sorting for S1000D Publication Lists [NMX-B-3XX-2]
The Builder now supports configurable sorting behavior for S1000D publication lists. While the default order remains based on pmNumber + pmVolume, the distribution can now be configured to sort also using other metadata fields such as pmEntryTitle and pmTitle, offering greater flexibility in how publications are organized and presented to users.
  • Improved Clarity in User-Facing Messages[NMX-B-3XX-3]
Updated messages, log outputs and system notifications to enhance clarity and usability.

Update Instructions

Are You Eligible?

If you are currently running 2024-2, your system qualifies for this patch. Please reach out to your SYNAXIOM representative or submit a request via the Self-Serve Portal for instructions specific to your distribution.

Prerequisites

None required. However, ensure that backup routines and test validation points are in place per your internal deployment policies.

Post-Deployment Steps

  • Validate the Viewer functionality under load conditions
  • Confirm publishing operations via Builder
  • Perform a basic authentication and session test on all Viewer variants

For guidance, consult your platform administrator or assigned Client Success Manager.

If the distribution was updated in this release to apply the new configurable sorting options for S1000D publication lists, administrators must republish the S1000D data using the Builder for the changes to take effect in the Viewer.

Note: This step is only required if the sorting configuration has been customized.
End-users of the Viewer apps will not experience any change unless republishing occurs.

Effects on Users

This release includes minor user-facing improvements, primarily focused on clarity and usability. These changes do not alter existing workflows or require retraining.

  • Subtle UI refinements and updated messaging improve clarity without changing core functionality.
  • No significant changes to features or behavior that would impact user habits.
  • Performance improvements have enhanced overall responsiveness, particularly under concurrent usage scenarios.
